Dieses Buch versteht sich als eine umfangreiche Einführung in die Beobachtung des Himmels für die Besitzer von Feldstechern. Das Buch beginnt mit einer Beschreibung der verschiedenen Feldstechertypen und Erklärungen zu Grundbegriffen der astronomischen Beobachtung.

Es schließt sich ein ausführliches Kapitel über Doppelsterne und Veränderliche an.
